Life is all about choices and in most cases, the more we have to choose from, the better chance we have to be happy. As we all know, finding the best suitable radio station can sometimes become quite a task. But for the city of Atlanta, change is on the horizon. Not too long ago, Streetz 94.5 Radio took the city by storm and offered a nice blend of music to keep virtually everyone happy. From hip hop enthuisiasts to R&B lovers and even the faithful reality tv fans. But now with the addition of Old School 99.3 Radio, which is affiliated with Streetz 94.5, radio listeners have another viable option. Specializing in spinning 80’s,90’s and early 2000’s hits and even a sprinkle of 90’s sounds, this station will feature classics from artists such as Keith Sweat, Luther Vandross, Mary J Blige, Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Jodeci, Jagged Edge LL Cool J, Scarface and countless others. In addition, there are few who may be familiar with this station mostly because it runs as a simulcast with 1010 WTZA-AM. As of now, the owner Steve Hegwood, maintains his focus on building the station into becoming the city’s premier radio station and plans to recruit some of the best talent to fill positions of disc jockeys and on-air personalities.
It’s that time of year again that we start to get sentimental and reflect on all of the things that we are thankful for. Most of us know this to be called holiday season, but for the city of Atlanta that term goes much deeper than that. Holiday Season is something that Atlanta has become used to and that’s because for this city, it’s Holiday Season year ’round. But if you’re wondering why, there is a good reason for this… DJ Holiday who has taken the city by storm has solidified his spot as ATL’s most recognized name in radio and hip hop. A long-time friend and collaborator of Gucci Mane, DJ Holiday has earned his notoriety and has definitely put in hard work over the years. A native of Atlanta, he most of his days spinning records at parties and just about any event he could take on. His relentless work ethic eventually caught the attention of DJ Drama who made him a member of the esteemed Aphilliates music crew and from that point, it was no turning back. Soon after he would then begin his infamous mixtape series ‘Holiday Season’ and go on to craft a classic gem titled ‘EA Sports Center‘ (2008), in which Gucci Mane rode shotgun for the project. At one period in time DJ Holiday and Gucci Mane had the mixtape ‘trap talk’ on lock, and in 2010 he did the unthinkable when he released ‘Holiday Season 3′ which yielded 1.5 million downloads in less than 24 hours. Nowadays, every day seems like a holiday for the Atlanta native who has a daily segment on Streetz94.5 Radio, and ever since its inception has seen guests such as Jeezy, T.I., various cast members from Love and HipHop, and countless others. And speaking of Love and HipHop, there other utters and rumors that the multi-talented deejay will be an upcoming cast member. Not to mention that his Commission Music Group is taking over Atlanta and making waves throughout the country as well. With all of this happening at the same time, how does he keep it all together? That’s simple! All it takes is hard work and trusting that his team will be on point each and every day. As Meek Mill would say, ‘it’s levels to this s**t’, and one thing is for sure DJ Holiday is on a higher level than most, in fact, he is now that of royalty! Atlanta’s own ‘Prince of Tides’.
Recently to help bring in his birthday right, DJ Holiday recruited a few special guests to help him celebrate his special day. Watch as he shuts Club Prive down with Rocko, Young Dolph, YG, Young Thug and a few other well known faces.
Not so fast! Ludacris takes time out to remember Atlanta and the rest of the rap community that he has not fell off and he wants to make one thing clear… he’s here to stay. He was always known for his versatility and he is also aware that there are whispers around town that his name is of the past tense. Well take a peek at what Luda’s been up to in the studio these days. Doesn’t sound like he’s gone Hollywood to me, in fact, I’d say that if he really went hard at the rap game again, lyrics would matter again (especially those from the Atlanta side of things… sorry, I’m just saying).
At the very beginning of the journey, there were many who said that it wouldn’t last but two years later, Streetz 94.5 Radio Station of Atlanta is still here… and they ain’t going nowhere! Recently the on-air personalities got together at Atl’s Opera Night Club and celebrated their success with the party-goers and a few of the music industries hottest talents. K Camp, The Migos, Shawty Lo, Myko Montana and were just some of the familiar faces that came through to salute and celebrate.
Atlantas New Hip-Hop Station was joined by The Migos, K Camp, Travis Porter, Myko Montana, Shawty Lo & A1 the Super Group to commemorate the event at Opera Night Club.
On his recent east coast trip, Kid Ink visited the city of Atlanta, and during his stay he stopped in at Land of Fly clothing boutique. The event was hosted by Streetz 94.5, one of Atl’s hottest radio stations, and turned out to be a huge success.
East Point, GA rapper/producer Yamin, formerly known as DJ AmDex, presents Senior Dues, his new album featuring Tha Dogg Pound’s Kurupt, Count Bass D, J-Live, Boog Brown, Phene, Small Eyez, Joe D and Sa-Roc as well as production from from Illastrate, Dublohskytzo, and Sam Brown. Yamin’s work as one half of Atlanta rap duo Clan Destined garnered them a 5 out of 5 rating from Creative Loafing for their album Self Titled. Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound appears on “Change Your Style (DF-DPG Remix)”, a new take on Yamin’s original song from his 2009 release The 7 Scrolls. Big Vision of Dungeoneze played the instrumental for Kurupt and the rest was history. “Vision is a long-time homie who I’ve done a few songs with around the time of The 7 Scrolls release, ” says Yamin. “He showed love back when a lot of people weren’t paying attention. This is full-circle for me to have a track with an old friend and a living legend all at the same time.” Of Senior Dues, Semali says it was “a fun experience that wouldn’t have been possible without having seen different parts of North America touring with Cyhi The Prynce, where I got to meet individuals who would influence this project and find the time to write ideas that would turn into songs on this album. I called it Senior Dues because I feel that I’ve shifted from one level of artistry to the next, where professionalism is seen in everything I do, from the art to the sound and presentation. It’s like graduating to a higher state within the same culture.”
One word comes to mind upon listening to this album… remarkable. From start to finish, Lee Nova’s latest project ‘Enjoy The View’ is a thorough body of work. There’s a little something for everybody on here and the album’s success comes to no surprise either. When we first featured Nova (formerly known as Young Nova) on HHABC, we went in depth with the youngster for a full-length interview. Even back then, he showed a lot of promise as an emcee and for the most part, we knew that it would be only a matter of time until he flourished into one of the underground’s hottest artists. ‘Enjoy The View’ seems to be a prime example of where Nova’s been and where he’s headed… and with the right team that will be nowhere but the top. Take a listen to Enjoy The View and get a feel for where real hip hop is going.
