Life is all about choices and in most cases, the more we have to choose from, the better chance we have to be happy. As we all know, finding the best suitable radio station can sometimes become quite a task. But for the city of Atlanta, change is on the horizon. Not too long ago, Streetz 94.5 Radio took the city by storm and offered a nice blend of music to keep virtually everyone happy. From hip hop enthuisiasts to R&B lovers and even the faithful reality tv fans. But now with the addition of Old School 99.3 Radio, which is affiliated with Streetz 94.5, radio listeners have another viable option. Specializing in spinning 80’s,90’s and early 2000’s hits and even a sprinkle of 90’s sounds, this station will feature classics from artists such as Keith Sweat, Luther Vandross, Mary J Blige, Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Jodeci, Jagged Edge LL Cool J, Scarface and countless others. In addition, there are few who may be familiar with this station mostly because it runs as a simulcast with 1010 WTZA-AM. As of now, the owner Steve Hegwood, maintains his focus on building the station into becoming the city’s premier radio station and plans to recruit some of the best talent to fill positions of disc jockeys and on-air personalities.
Doesn’t it strike you that these award shows that come around annually and used to mean something, and now it’s quite the contrary. I remember as a youth, my mother would always let me stay up late to watch the American Music Awards and the Grammy’s in particular. Things were much different back in those days. In those times, the artists had to actually earn their award by exceeding in popularity, as well as, talent. Not to say that each and every artist that win aren’t good enough to take home the award, but if they are not being judged in the proper genre, then how could we even say they are the best in ‘that’ category? ****** On a side note: Would it even be worth the the thought to include the BET Hip Hop Awards into this? There’s quiet mutters everywhere that suggest that in at least the past two attempts, BET provided nothing but buffoonery when it came to that. ******
So it is in our best interests to call out the ones who are making things such as these possible. As we all know, Kendrick Lamar was the fan favorite to win a Grammy but was beat out by Macklemore, who later agreed that he was aware of the real winner of best rap album. As if it isn’t bad enough that most of what we hear today on the radio is wack but the deserving artists should be properly acknowledged.
It is refreshing to know that there is still an MC or two for that fact that will dare to go the “Not Like Them” route. Big up to Sai and Pinero!
