We’ve all heard the stories of how the folks at Death Row Records made classic hits, partied like rock stars and still had time to dedicate to their lives in the street. But there is still nothing better than to watch them when they were at their best and at the top of the food chain in the hip hop game. People have their opinions about Suge Knight but they never give him props on his vision and business sense. I truly believe that if he had a chance to do it over again, he would have done things a little different and maybe things would be in a better state in the world of music… period. The lineup at Death Row circa 1996 was legendary and as you watch their live performance at The House of Blues, you can tell that it was more than a job, it was more than ‘red and blue’, it was a family. To see 2Pac, Snoop, and Suge Knight at the end of the show hug each other is priceless; it’s obvious that they had a mutual respect for each other… and all in the same breath we still utter to ourselves, “what if”.
Here’s a few things about Snoop and Tupac that you may not have known. Even after so many years have passed since Biggie and Tupac were killed, the untold stories by their friends and family are highly cherished by some of their biggest fans.
When we look at Snoop Dogg, it’s kind of hard to believe that he’s been in the game 20+ years. Even up until present day, he still has that playful and kindred spirit that we all come to love him for. Recently Snoop reflected on his debut album ‘Doggystyle’, which almost instantly turned into a hip hop classic. In light of this album, we can most definitely look at this project as being part of the foundation (along with Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’), as well as, being one of the most influential hip hop projects in history. As holding ourselves responsible at HHABC, we’d like to remind you that the majority of music the mainstream was exposed to was top-notch at that time and for Snoop to drop this album and experience love from the east coast was a phenomenal feat in its own right. Oh and let’s not forget that soon after releasing this album he found himself in the middle of a murder trial and was able to be the mastermind behind another top-selling album ‘Murder Was the Case’. Who else you know that could be on trial for murder and bang out classic albums??
Surely by now the majority of rap fans will probably agree that Daz and Kurupt’s debut album, ‘Dogg Food’ was a hip hop classic. In addition to that, the west coast duo could never again capture that magic which came easy for them once upon a time. To make matters even more complex the friendship and working relationship suffered drastically throughout their final years under Death Row’s tenure. Kurupt and Daz were able to finally put their differences aside long enough to at least channel some of that energy from the 90’s, a time when they were on top of their game.
Truce! In what seems to be a sure sign of squashing beef, Snoop and former nemesis, Suge Knight were seen together getting it in at AV Club in Los Angeles. If you’re familiar with the history of these two guys, you’d know that this comes as a complete shock. Amid the downfall of the infamous Death Row Records, Snoop and Suge no longer could see eye-to-eye in the way the label was run. At one point in time, Snoop revealed that he feared losing his life due to his beef with Suge.
As the world anxiously awaits public acknowledgment in the form of a full statement in regards to the reuniting of the two West coast figures, we salute and congratulate Snoop and Suge for finally ending this petty feud.
Don’t we just miss those days when Tha Row was poppin’…
Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion) has been in the game for quite some time now. Through the years, he’s earned himself a profound level of respect from music fans worldwide. But other than being an influential rapper, Snoop is also well-known for his recreational usage of marijuana (like y’all didn’t know!). Recently, the west coast artist revealed that he would love to be the first person to burn an ‘L’ with his sons. True indeed, this should not be a surprise due to Snoop’s open admission of partaking in consuming ganja smoke, but as we all know the media has the spotlight on Snoop for his statement. No matter what, you have to admit that he has a point though…
Check out the Snoop and his young pup getting it in!!!!!
There may be some uncertainty for some people about who exactly Mystikal is. Well here is an example of who he once was. Taken from his ‘Ghetto Fabulous’, this is one of his greatest pieces of work. Always known for his unorthodox ‘spit fire’ flow, it’s only a matter of time before the rap legend to come with another memorable verse.
It’s been a long time coming for Michael Tyler, better known as Mystikal. After serving a six-year prison sentence for sexual battery, the former No Limit rap star wants a chance to redeem himself and continue with his career. Since he’s been released, Mystikal has been open to doing interviews and wasted no time in getting back on his grind. Here’s an interview with Sway for MTV…
Mystikal still owes one more album to Jive Records and his contract will be fulfilled. The Louisiana native who was once a member of the No Limit Records roster recently signed with former rival label Cash Money Records, both based in New Orleans, Louisiana. We once knew the flamboyant rapper for his energetic personality and explosive performances, but now there’s a noticeably big change in Mystikal’s persona. He’s humbled himself down and makes it a point to let everyone know that he’s appreciative for the support from fans and peers. Snoop Dogg and Mystikal recently chopped it up about the past and even revealed facts about Snoop’s tenure at No Limit Records….
Michael Tyler aka Mystikal was convicted of a crime and served his time. It’s apparent that he feels remorse for what happened so what’s done is DONE. Mystikal has fulfilled his legal obligation to the victim and state of Louisiana, now it’s time to enjoy what he now has to offer us through his music.
“…we’ve got to take responsibility for what we do, too. “We’ve got to pay more attention to what we’re doing ourselves. We can’t be fools, especially when you’re blessed and successful beyond your dreams. We’ve got to tighten up…. I’m still trying to feel this reality, I was gone so long, all the things I achieved felt like a dream, like I had never done that stuff.”
The long awaited reunion has finally materialized. For many years, fans of the Dogg Pound have been wondering what would happen if they were to ever record music together again. And now here is the result…a slew of new songs for adamant fans to enjoy. There are a few tell-tale signs that the peak time has past for the crew to go at it but there are plenty of highlights throughout this mixtape that shows us that the chemistry is still there.
